Contributing Leadership | Any of the engaged leaders of either SME or Corporates spoken to over the last couple of years struggle with the implementation of fundamental change! Various interventions are launched, such as agile working and fancy leadership programs. I observe that many of such tactical interventions are undertaken, without first having defined a strategy, thus, without the organisation being yet aware what the highest purpose is that connects these initiatives. I often wonder what the purpose is of these interventions and what they contribute to targets and, most importantly, to the organisation’s ambition.

Succesful change starts at the top, with the development of a shared ambition. Such a shared ambition – on strategical level – will lead to the desired direction of change. When the ambition is developed, then tactical interventions make sense. Then they can be aligned and prioritised in the most effective way of their contribution to realising the ambition.
